Dear Hull Community:

As you may be aware, this past school year, for the first time, Hull High School partnered with the Hull Lifesaving Museum to build a boat. Hull High School woodshop teacher, Derek Skapars and Hull Lifesaving Museum Executive Director, Michael McGurl, worked with interested students to start a high school woodshop boat-building team. Together, the team built an 18’ power skiff.  The SSG Emily M Carroll, is named in memory of a local veteran with ties to the town and the museum. A $400 Massachusetts Cultural Council grant and a significant US Rowing grant helped finance the project, with more boat-building projects planned for the future.

This is a great honor that we would like to recognize by acknowledging the students, staff of Hull Public Schools, the Hull Lifesaving Museum and the family of Emily Carroll. The dedication and launch will take place at the Hull Lifesaving Museums Boat House (across the street from Hull High School) on Friday, August 11, 2023.  The event begins at 6:00 pm with a short ceremony, followed by the team launch.

We hope that you can join us, and the whole community, for this memorable ceremony. Please feel free to invite family and friends to this event.

Sincerely,

Judy Kuehn
Superintendent
