Mrs. Kenney - Grade 2

Room B119

Good afternoon! Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year. I am writing  to introduce myself as your child's second grade teacher. My name is Mrs. Kenney and I am thrilled to have your child in my second grade class. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year!

I want your child to enjoy coming to school each and every day. Our classroom environment will be a pleasant one, filled with rich experiences, challenging projects, and special friendships. Each day will consist of daily routines with a structured classroom environment so the students know exactly what is expected.

It is, in order to ensure the best education for your child, extremely important that we work together. If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to call or e-mail me at any time. To keep you updated on what is taking place in the classroom, I will send home monthly newsletters which will summarize what has taken place in the classroom for that particular month. Please read the attached sheet that will explain some of our routines for this year.

This is my 28th year as a teacher for the Hull Public Schools.  We have so many exciting things that will be happening in our classroom this year! The students will be learning and working toward independence.  They will be responsible to using a 3-ring homework binder where they will keep a homework agenda, WEB folder and homework folder.  This binder will be going home Monday through Thursday and must be returned to school each day.

My philosophy of education is that my students, first and foremost, enjoy school. I try to instill a joy for learning as I try to make learning fun each and every day. Secondly, when students feel comfortable in their environment and good about him/herself, it makes it easier for them to be open to new ideas and ways of doing things. I will be your child's cheerleader this year and encourage them to do his/her very best in school. I chose this profession to make a difference in the lives' of my students and create strategies that can be used in future grades. Thank you so much for allowing me to be part of your child's education.

Reading is the key for a successful second grade year. Students are expected to read for 20 minutes every single day of the week. This daily reading really adds up over the course of the year and helps your child to develop a love of reading. In addition to your child reading to you, don't forget that reading to your child still counts as reading time too. I encourage all my parents to choral read with their child which means you read out loud with your child at the same time that they are--so that you are actually reading together. The children love to read this way! Just remember, that no matter how you choose to read with your child, the important thing is to make sure it's accomplished every day!

Once again, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me.  I can be best reached through email or jot a note in the homework agenda.  I will get back to you as soon as I can.  Thank you!
