Together We Gut This! #5

October 13, 2021

Dear Hull Community,

The next School Committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 18 at 6:30 at Hull High School.  Some of the topics on the agenda include: Test and Stay Program, student vaccination clinic, Memorial School repair project, intramurals, and Best Use of Educational Facilities Focus Groups. Below you will find an update on various topics.

Vaccination Clinic October 21

In partnership with Manet Community Health Center, a COVID-19 vaccination clinic is scheduled during the morning of October 21 for any student eligible to be vaccinated at Memorial Middle School and Hull High School.  The clinic will be held at both buildings during the school day. If you would like your child to participate in the clinic, please complete the consent form and return it to your child’s school nurse. Please also fill out the on-line vaccination registration form below, which will automatically register you with Manet. Please note….you need to register whether you are a Manet patient or not.  A paper copy of the consent form and/or registration form can also be sent home if needed, just ask your child’s nurse. In addition, if you have any questions about the vaccination clinic, please contact your child’s school nurse.

Test and Stay Program

Over the next few weeks, the District will transition to the Test and Stay program.  We are working with a vendor and hope to have the Test and Stay Program in place by November 1.  The Test and Stay Program allows close contacts to remain in school. Close contacts do not have to quarantine, as long as they:  are asymptomatic, wear masks in school at all times, take a rapid antigen test on each school day and receive a negative result.  Additionally, when the 7 days from date of exposure includes weekends or holidays, individuals should quarantine on weekends/holidays, and if they remain asymptomatic, upon return to school they will be tested immediately.  If the individual remains negative, they can stay in school.

Until the Test and Stay Program is in place, we will continue to follow Protocol B-2 for asymptomatic, close contacts, partnered with the free PCR testing program the District makes available through South Shore Hospital.

Best Educational Use of School Facilities Focus Groups

The Committee for the Best Educational Use of School Facilities is hosting seven (7) focus groups to hear input from an array of stakeholders.  The focus groups will be held at Hull High School and facilitated by an independent consultant, Dr. Gary Maestas. In addition to the focus groups, staff and community members will be able to share their input via a survey.

Memorial School Repair Project

As you may know, at the May 2021 Town Meeting, the residents of Hull approved building repairs for the Memorial Middle School. This is to notify you that the project has begun and the work is expected to continue through January 2022.   All of the repairs are on the exterior of the building.   Repairs include: the slate roof, front stairway, landscape walls, painting trim and doors, a minor amount of non-friable asbestos abatement, new windows, and masonry.  As always, the safety of our students and staff remains a top priority and appropriate safety precautions are in place. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Facilities, David DeGennaro at ddegennaro@town.hull.ma.us

SEPAC- Special Education Parent Advisory Council

The Hull Public Schools SEPAC is seeking board members and parent members for the 2020-2021 school year.  SEPAC is a group of parents and educators working together to support students with disabilities and their families in our schools. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Kristen Ryan, Director of Student Services, at kyryan@town.hull.ma.us

Tik Tok Challenge

I am sure you are all aware and concerned about the recent challenges on the social media platform Tik Tok. The trend calls for students to carry out different challenges that vandalize schools or cause physical harm to others.  Please take a moment to talk with your child about the serious nature of these incidents, and emphasize that any student who causes harm to school property or another person will have consequences.  Thank you for your support and understanding on this topic as we promote pride and safety in our schools.
