When you click the line below you’ll  hear me say the new words of our song to learn that week.

Next, you’ll hear me sing those words slowly. Practice singing with me on the recording over and over until you can sing the part well.

Then, I’ll sing all the parts we’ve learned together. Practice this with me on the recording over and over until you can sing it well.

Last, I’ll play the melody (tune) to all the parts we know at a faster tempo (speed) on the keyboard without me singing. You practice remembering and singing the words with the recording until you can do it well

Kindergarten-Grade 1

Do you remember "Did You Ever See a Lassie"? Try it with your family.

One person shows a motion for the first part of the song, then everyone copies that motion for the second part. This can be good exercise

Grades 2-5

Last week you created a 32 beat song by repeating your 16 beat song. For the first 16 beats pat quarter notes on your thighs and clapping the eight notes. Then without stopping do the next 16 beats tapping quarter notes with feet and patting eight notes on your thighs.

Week of April 6-10

Kindergarten

Sing "Farmer in the Dell" (Do your best singing) Think of other things that are found on a farm. Choose seven new farm things  Use your ideas instead of the things we use in music class. Practice singing your new song so you can do your best!

Grade 1

Listen to a song you like. Listen again for the steady beat. Try to clap the steady beat. You can also pat the steady beat on your knees, thighs, stomach, chest or shoulders. Practice lots of different ways keeping your steady beat while you listen. Can you sing the song too?

Grades 2-5

Use your sixteen beat song from last week. (Check last weeks assignment) Practice it until you can do it at slow, medium,and fast tempos. Now practice doing your song two times without stopping. Practice until you can do this repeat at all tempos. 

March 30 – April 3

Grade K

Last week I asked you to think of 2 rhyming words for each number, one through ten. Sing “This Old Man” using the words we sing in music class.  Do the motions too! Then use your rhyming words instead of the words we sing in music class.  Make up motions for your rhyming words.  Practice putting everything together!

Grade 1

Last week I asked you to think of two rhyming words for each number, one through ten.March and clap to the steady beat of “The Ants Go Marching . . .”, singing the words we sing in music class.  Then, march and clap to the steady beat and sing the song using your rhyming words for each number.  Don’t forget to lift your knees high!!

Grades 2 – 5

I hope you’ve been practicing your 8-beat rhythm that you composed last week!

This week, write another eight-beat rhythm song using four quarter notes, 2 quarter rests, and two pairs of eighth notes.

Practice your new composition.  Start at a slow tempo the first times.  Then, try your new song a little faster until you can do it quickly too!

Next, put your eight-beat song from last week together with this week’s new song without stopping.  Now you have a sixteen-beat song.

Practice your whole new song slowly at first.  Then, speed up as you get comfortable with it.  KEEP PRACTICING!!!

March 23-27

Grades K,1

Songs use rhyming words. Think of rhyming words for the numbers one through 10.

For example one-fun  two-new  Write down two rhyming words for each number and save them for next week!

Grdes 2-5

Write an eight beat song as in "Rockin Rhythm Raps." Use two pairs of eight notes, two quarter rests, and four quarter notes. Write the counting as in music class.

Practice your song at a slow tempo. Practice more so you can play it at a fast tempo too! Try your song using a combination of pats, claps, snaps etc.

1. How are they different?

2. How are they similar?

3. Is the steady beat to each song fast or slow?

4. Clap, tap, or snap the steady beat while you listen to each song.

5. What is the song about?

6. Who is the singer or band of each song?
