Principal’s Newsletter – November 2020

Hello Hull High School Community,

In past years I have traditionally sent out a monthly newsletter to families detailing the upcoming events of that particular month.  When we went remote last spring, I moved away from the monthly newsletter since my correspondence needed to be more frequent.  Now that we’ve settled into the school year with our new routines, I’m sending out my monthly newsletter again.  Should more frequent communication be necessary, I will of course reach out to you with updates.

That being said, here is what’s happening at Hull High School this month…..

The Voice of Democracy contest is the VFW’s premier scholarship program where students compete by writing and recording an audio essay on an annual patriotic theme.  This year, as part of their commitment to community service, our National Honor Society students wrote speeches about this year’s theme, “Is This the Country the Founders Envisioned?”  The winners of this year’s contest are: 1st place – Maeve Donohue, 2nd place – Melissa Rymaszewski, and 3rd place -- Jenna Canavan. Thank you to all of our participants!

As you are aware, November 3rd is Election Day and there is no school for students.  Our faculty will spend the day working on professional development specifically with regard to our upcoming spring NEASC accreditation visit and hybrid/remote learning instructional strategies.

Wednesday, November 11th is the Veteran’s Day holiday so there will be no virtual classes that day.

Term 1 grades close on November 13th, so please check your child’s academic progress on their Aspen account.  Report cards for term 1 will be posted on Aspen on November 19th.  Please reach out to your child’s teachers or their guidance counselor with any concerns.

As always, Thanksgiving week is a shortened week for school, so we will have Cohort A attend on Monday, November 23rd and Cohort B will attend on Tuesday, November 24th.  Wednesday, November 25th will be a virtual early release day and will also be when our Homecoming King and Queen final voting will occur.  The schedule for that Wednesday will be sent at a later date.

In conclusion, I want to say thank you to Ms. Stankiewicz (for the idea), the student council members, and their faculty advisor, Ms. Hillner, for arranging a Cohort vs. Cohort Halloween costume contest.  The cohort that had the greatest number of participants was Cohort B!  However, in both cohorts there were lots of creative and fun costumes to brighten our moods during a challenging time.  It was just what we all needed to bring out some laughs and some smiles (behind the masks)!

Thank you for your continued support of our students at home since this is a critical piece regarding overall school success.

Take care and be well,

Nicole Nosek, Principal
