Principal’s Newsletter – December 2020

Hello Hull High Community,

I hope this finds you and your family well as we finish up a very challenging 2020.  Here are some recent and upcoming events at Hull High in December.  You will notice a common theme in many of the things listed: students and staff coming up with creative ways of reclaiming cultural traditions that are lost this year to the pandemic.

In lieu of our traditional Homecoming festivities, our Homecoming nominees each created videos where they were ‘interviewed’ and our entire school community watched these videos during Advisory Homeroom and voted for king and queen.  I am pleased to announce that Siobhan Burke won Homecoming Queen and Jimmy Polito won Homecoming King.  Thank you to all who participated and thank you to the Student Government group for organizing!

Instead of our customary spirit week leading up to Thanksgiving, we had a cohort spirit day competition.  Each cohort wore blue and gold to demonstrate their school spirit, and cohort B won with more than 60 percent of students dressing up.

Wednesday, December 2nd is a 90 minute early release day for afternoon and evening parent/teacher conferences.  A link to sign up for conferences was previously sent out but is also here: www.ptcfast.com/schools/Hull_High_School

Since we are unable to conduct in-person conferences currently, teachers will send out a Zoom link for their virtual meetings.  Parents, please log-on to the Zoom link at your scheduled time and the teacher will let you in.  Patience is appreciated while you wait ‘in the waiting room’ to be let into the conference.  If you have any questions, please contact the main office.

As you are aware, term 1 report cards were posted on Aspen on November 19th.  Mid-term progress reports for term 2 will be posted on December 23rd, the day we close for the holiday break.

Speaking of the days leading up to the holiday break, we will follow the same schedule that we did for the shortened Thanksgiving week.  Cohort A will attend on Monday, December 21 and Cohort B will attend on Tuesday, December 22.  Wednesday the 23rd will be all-school remote.

Finally, in keeping with the creative ideas to keep the spirit of our traditions alive, our theater arts department will live stream a radio production of A Christmas Carol on December 19 and 20 at 8:00pm.  More details will be sent out as we get closer to this exciting endeavor becoming a reality.

In closing, please have a safe and healthy holiday season!

Sincerely,

Nicole Nosek, Principal
