Principal’s Newsletter – October 2019
The famous line from the movie, Field of Dreams, is “If you build it, they will come”. Well, fans certainly did come out on Friday night for our grand opening of our brand new athletic field and to celebrate all of our student athletes, our new Hall of Fame inductees, our football alumni, and to cheer on the Hull Pirates! Our football team was the first to score on our new field and got the first win on our new field. Also that night we celebrated our homecoming nominees, and at the dance that evening we crowned Riley Evans and Chad Noto as our homecoming queen and king of the class of 2020. It was an exciting night from start to finish!
Also, our Library Media Specialist, Tara Grosso, worked in partnership with the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and the Boston Bruins who donated a signed Boston Bruins jersey that was raffled off to any student who completed their summer reading and visited the Hull Public Library. Congratulations to senior student Jack Iverson who is the lucky winner of the jersey!
With good news sometimes there also is some bad news. Early Sunday morning it was discovered that a pipe valve burst in a storage area and caused flooding in the majority of the gymnasium. As a result, there is damage to the gym floor and the gym remains closed at this time. I will keep you posted as we determine next steps with regard to the gym. Physical education classes are being conducted outside and in the fitness room area for the time being.
Highlighted below are some of the upcoming events this October at Hull High School.
Term 1 progress reports will be posted on the Aspen portal on Wednesday, October 2nd. Please review your child’s progress report to see if he/she is off to a strong start. Please contact your child’s teachers or guidance counselors with any questions or concerns you may have at this mid-point in the term.
Also this week on Wednesday, October 2nd, is Senior Parent Night at 7pm in the Exhibition Room at the high school with our guidance counselors. The counselors will discuss the college application process.
On Tuesday, October 8th, there is an early release day so teachers can participate in professional development work. Dismissal time for high school students is 12:00.
Our sophomore and junior students will be taking the PSAT on the morning of Wednesday, October 16th. Students will receive practice PSAT booklets in advisory the week before. Our freshmen students will take the PSAT 8/9 later in the year. The date for freshmen is still to be determined.
The last week in October is the final week of term 1, with grades closing on Friday, November 1st. It is difficult to comprehend that one quarter of the school year will be over at that time already!
As I previously mentioned, we are beyond excited that our new athletic field is open for business, and we encourage you to attend some of our fall sporting events. The athletic schedule may be found on our school website under ‘athletics’.
Hope to see you there!
