Happy New Year Hull High Students and Families,

I hope this newsletter finds you and your family healthy and well, and I hope you all had a nice holiday season.  As we return to school tomorrow, it is understandably with some trepidation due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases.  The Superintendent has sent out a detailed email today regarding all the mitigation measures that we will continue to have in place at school.  Students, please remember to come to school masked and keep that mask over your nose to help you and others remain safe.  Parents, if your child is sick, please do not send them to school but please do contact our school nurse, Tricia Roach, to discuss options and next steps.

A few quick reminders regarding notable dates in January:

We have no school on January 17th in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  There is also no school on January 18th since school staff will be participating in all-day professional development sessions.

Our guidance counselors will be having a Junior Parent Night on January 19th at 7pm.  More details will be sent to Juniors and their parents in the coming days.

Term 2 closes on January 21st.  Please continue to check the Aspen portal to monitor your child’s progress and if you have any questions or concerns please reach out to your child’s teachers or guidance counselor.  Term 2 report cards will post on Aspen on January 27th.

Freshmen will be participating in the PSAT 8/9 on Wednesday, January 26th.

Seniors and their families, please refer to the bottom of this newsletter for yearbook information from Mrs. Grosso.

Also, as we start the New Year, we have a new mission statement that we will be rolling out to students.  Our old mission statement which has been read on the morning announcements for the past 10 years has been updated by all staff to reflect our current day.  Our new mission statement is below, and we are excited to unveil it tomorrow to the school community:

Hull High School is committed to academic equity, personal responsibility, and the development of life-long learners within a safe and supportive environment.

Finally, over the last few years we have instituted some new traditions.  One of those new traditions is our annual door decorating contest for the holidays.  Each advisory decorates their classroom door to be the door decorating champion.  It was a fierce competition this year with many doors placing in different categories, but the overall winner this year was Ms. Kaplan’s advisory with the Polar Express door.  Please see the attached photo of the door complete with actual illuminated train headlight.  In challenging times of a pandemic, it is always a bright light when our students participate collaboratively in such an uplifting activity.

Thank you and Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Nicole Nosek, Principal
