Good morning Boys and Girls,

I hope you all had a great weekend.  It was so nice to have several days of sunshine.  I can’t believe we are on week 12, and there are only two and a half weeks left of this school year.  I was able to get into the school on Friday, and it was sad to see the empty building with almost no signs of life.  We are all used to the Jacobs School full to the brim with students and staff.  I am looking forward to when it can come to life again, hopefully in September.

This week’s assignments are similar to last weeks assignments.  We will be continuing our end of the year review in math.  I hope by now you all received and read your time capsule project.  This week’s writing will be based on that project.

Good morning Boys and Girls,

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  The weather was fantastic.  I was able to get some gardening and yard work done.  That is always so satisfying for me.  I hope you all had a chance to get outside and run around.

This week’s math work is a review of adding and subtracting fractions.  Remember back in school we practiced the 5 steps to adding and subtracting fractions.  They were: 1.  Find a common denominator, 2. Make equivalent fractions, 3.  Add or subtract the numerators, 4.  Denominator stays the same, and 5.  Simplify if possible.  Make sure you use the slides Mrs. Menice included in the google slides Escape the Bakery activities.  I know you can do this, but always remember if you need help, watch the videos in google classroom or search for a video on youtube.

Math:

  1.  Complete “Understanding Place Value”:  Found in google classroom
  1. Complete “Adding and Subtracting Fraction Match-Up”:  Found in google classroom
  2. Complete Part 1 of Escape the Bakery:  Due Tuesday Found in google classroom
  3. Complete Part 2 of Escape the Bakery:  Due Wednesday Found in google classroom
  4. Complete Part 3 of Escape the Bakery:  Due Thursday Found in google classroom
  5. Complete Part 4 of Escape the Bakery:  Due Friday Found in google classroom

Writing:

This week’s writing is working on your favorite Covid recipe.  You might want to try it out before you decide it’s your favorite.

Once you’ve picked your recipe, you will need to carefully read all the directions before creating your slide.

Write your recipe on one of the attached google slides.  You can pick what format you like best.

Once you choose your slide, you can change the background color and font.

I have included my favorite recipe too, so use it for reference.  Notice on one of the recipe cards I used the colors of the Mexican Flag as the background colors to give it some added flare.

Be creative, don’t just copy the recipe.  Make it your own.

Good morning Boys and Girls,

I hope you will enjoy this beautiful day.  I am looking forward to getting outside and taking a nice long walk.

I want to take some time to remind you of our weekly meetings.  We have added another day to our meeting schedule.  We will be meeting every Monday at 9:30 and on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:00.  I know the different times are a little confusing, but that can’t be helped at this time.

Please remember to have your camera turned on if possible.  This allows me and Mrs. Menice to see you and to know if you are giving us a thumbs up or raising your hand.  It also allows us to see your smiling face.  We miss you and want to see you.

I have also created a meeting tab in the event that you forget where to go for our meetings.  It is called "Morning Meetings".  You can find it on the left hand side of this web page.

I look forward to seeing you tomorrow at 9:00.

I also wanted to take this time to remind you that you have a lot of social studies and science work in our google classroom.  Please remember that you need to complete that work as well as your math and reading.

Have a great day and stay safe,

Ms. Mellyn

Good morning Boys and Girls,

It was so nice to see most of you at our meeting this morning.  I just wanted to take a moment to remind you about some of the things on my website.  If you are having trouble with your opinion writing you can always check the Opinion Writing tab.  There you will find examples of how to fill out your organizer and rough draft.  You can also see examples of Best Copies.  I will be adding to this tab as the weeks go on.

If you are looking for something else to do you can always look at my Helpful Websites tab.  There you will find many different sites to go to that can help you relax, de-stress, or practice your typing skills.

Once it starts to get nicer out, when it is not raining every other day, you might want to look at the Take Math Outdoors tab.  There you will find many different activities that you can do out in your yard or around your neighborhood, instead of being stuck inside.

Good morning Boys and Girls,

I hope that you all had a great long weekend.  I know I did.  We are now in week 6 of our remote learning.  It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long since we’ve all been together at the Jacobs.

Since we started this journey together, some things have changed in regards to how you get your school work.  The biggest change is that now you will get all your work for the whole week on Thursday nights in the Blue Notes.  Do not worry, though, you will still be able to find them on my website.

Another change is that there will be 5 different assignments in each subject area to choose from.  You must complete 3 of the 5 by Friday, with the exception of writing.  That assignment is separated by homeroom.

I hope you enjoy these assignments.

Math:  Please complete at least 3 of the 5 assignments.

1. Play Close to 100:  Go to this site to get directions and recording sheets.

https://www.milforded.org/uploaded/MPSOurSchools/Calf_Pen_Meadow/Close_to_100.pdf

4. Earth Day Task 11:  Found in google classroom.

5. Adding and Subtracting Decimals Task Cards:  Found in google classroom.

Your writing assignment will be broken down by day.  Each day you will have a different part to complete based on the 1 writing assignment.  The breakdown is as follows:

Tuesday:  Complete Graphic Organizer located in google classroom.

Wednesday:  Complete Rough Draft in google classroom.  Remember the structure of the paragraph: topic sentence/claim, detail 1, elaboration 1, detail 2, elaboration 2, detail 3, elaboration 3, and conclusion/wrap up.

Thursday:  Revise and Edit your rough draft.  Check for spelling, capital letters, punctuation, and transition words.  Please take 5 words from your paragraph and replace them with better words.

Friday:  Turn in your Best Copy.

If you are having trouble you can always check the Opinion Writing tab on my website.  You will find examples of well written opinion paragraphs.

Good morning everybody,

I believe there has been some confusion about what you need to do for your assignments.  Please take a minute to read through these instructions.

  1. Everyday you should log onto my webpage at hullpublicschools.org and check the Homework tab.  There you will find what you need to do and where to find it.
  2. If there is a google classroom assignment, you will need to log into your google account and enter the classroom that has your homeroom teacher's name on it.  For example, if you are in Mrs. King's homeroom you will enter Mrs. King Math.  If you are in Mrs. McCarthy's homeroom you should enter Mrs. McCarthy Math.  When you finish an assignment, you must hit submit and make sure it is sent back to me.

I believe some of you are completing your assignments, but I am not receiving them.  Please just double check that they get submitted and sent.

  1. Log in to Mrs. King’s Reading Mellyn Classroom and complete the assignment that she left there for you.
  2. Continue working on your readworks.org work for Mrs. McCarthy.
  3. If you are looking for something to extra to do, you can always work on your Journal 1 math box pages, or if you didn’t finish any of the first two week assignments, I would work on those

Now for today’s assignment:  4/1/20

Math:

  1. You have been hired to create and work on an Earth Day Club.  It is your job to create the club, make a plan, and try your best to make the world a better place.  On top of all that, it is also your job to help educate people and get them to help the environment.

In order for you to get started, you must start gathering information by completing the file located in our Mellyn Math and Writing Classroom.  Don’t delay; the whole world is waiting for you to save mankind.  Good Luck!!
